Pharaho's Revenge: da una comune ma sempre suggestiva veduta della Piramide di Keope e della Sfinge, e da "Curse of the Mummy" dell'artista Martin McKenna, è nata questa "Vendetta del Faraone". Il risultato è piuttosto banale, ma è uno dei miei primi esperimenti con Photoshop. Le "stelle cadenti" (o sfere di fuoco?) vogliono dare un tocco apocalittico alla scena. Il bagliore sulla cima della Grande Piramide non promette nulla di buono...

From a common, but as ever evocative view of Keope Pyramid and Sphynx, and from artist Martin McKenna’s “Curse of the Mummy", I created this “Pharaho’s Revenge”. The result is pretty trivial, but it’s one of my very first Photoshop experiments. The shooting stars (or fire balls?) intend to give an apocalyptic touch. The light on the Great Pyramid top doesn’t augur well...

Teo in Fairyland: una foto di Teo, il mio cane venuto a mancare nel 2007, e un'illustrazione di Larry MacDougall, “Tree House”, mi hanno suggerito questa semplice ma spero gradevole scena "fatata". I colori virati verso il viola, e il sole tra i rami vogliono suggerire una luce calda, come quella che, al tramonto, si spande nel Paese delle Fate. Il lavoro è incompleto, mancano alcuni dettagli che, dopo la morte di Teo, non ho più voluto aggiungere. Mi piace pensare che ora si trovi in un posto simile a questo.

A picture of Teo, my dog, who died in 2007, and a Larry MacDougall’s illustration, “Tree House”, suggested to me this simple – but pleasant, hopefully – “fairy” scene. Colours turned to violet, and the sun among the branches intend to suggest a warm light, like sunset light in Fairyland. The work is incomplete, some details are missing – I didn’t add them after Teo’s death. I’ld like thinking now he’s in such a place.

Sunset Princess: a ispirarmi, in questo caso, è stata una foto del castello di Miramare, presso Trieste. Ho immaginato che una principessa circondata da animali (una moderna Circe, forse) si affacciasse sul terrazzo posteriore ad ammirare il tramonto sul mare, mentre un vascello volante (ho un debole per le navi volanti) solca silenzioso il cielo dove un drago volteggia indisturbato. Ho tratto due immagini da Boris Vallejo, due da Max Bertolini e una da Richard Hescox.

My inspiration, in this occasion, was a picture of Miramare Castle (Trieste). I imagined a princess surrounded by animals (a modern Circe, maybe), overlooking at the rear terrace to admire the sunset on the sea, while a flying ship (I have a weakness for flying ships) is silently passing across the sky, where a dragon is flying undisturbed. Two pictures are from Boris Vallejo's works, two from Max Bertolini's and one is from Richard Hescox's work.
